Who is Old Leaf?

For the Ones Who Keep Flowers Long After the Party Ends

Some flowers are too important to fade quietly.
They carry vows. Births. Milestones. Loss.
The moments you never want to forget , even when the bouquet has started to wilt.

At Old Leaf Designs, we take those moments and anchor them in time.
We press each bloom by hand, compose each arrangement like fine art, and seal it in an artisan-made frame dressed with crystal-clear art glass, the kind that lets every vein, curve, and hue sing for decades to come.

Our favourite pieces feel like something out of The Secret Garden, flowing, layered, alive with movement. Some have the wildness of a fairy garden, others the quiet magic of an undersea scene. A few could walk straight out of a Studio Ghibli film. We even have a design we call The Castle in the Sky. Another we named The Flower Portal — a composition that felt like stepping through a blooming threshold into another world.

Every design begins with a story.
A chapel where vows were spoken, blended with the lavender field it stands in. Maple leaves from the tree where a first dance took place. The view from a headland where a proposal was made. The twist of branches from the tree they married under. The swirling colour palette of Follow the Colours of the Wind, a Pocahontas-inspired piece for a couple who wanted their wedding day captured in full, joyful technicolour.

Whatever request we’re given, we treat as a bit of fun,  no idea is too weird. Some concepts won’t quite work with the flowers we have, but we always try. We don’t want every day to be the same; in fact, we’d go mad if every design looked alike. That’s why people come to us, for individuality, for creativity, for the unexpected.

And even a classic “bouquet design” is far from boring. We work from an actual image of your bouquet on your wedding day, studying the way it sat in your hands, the arcs of each stem, the way certain blooms leaned or lifted. We replicate its shape and movement so your piece still feels alive.

We design intuitively, letting the flowers guide us. Pressed flower artworks are like puzzles without a reference image -we can’t see the finished piece yet, but we can sense it. Certain curves of a stem or the tilt of a petal spark the idea, and our imagination starts building. Bit by bit, the composition forms, until suddenly, it clicks- the puzzle piece is complete, and the story is ready to be framed (after your approval and input of course).

Some flowers ask for extra patience. We’ll carefully deconstruct them, petal by petal, and spend hours reconstructing them so they appear exactly as they did in the moment — sometimes even better. It’s delicate work, but worth every second.

Some pieces are grand challenges, keeping us at the workbench for days on end. Others are guided by a general “feel” - the way the colours hum together or the shapes seem to drift like clouds. Both have their place in our work.

And while weddings can be sentimental, they’re not all soft-focus and tearful nostalgia. They’re also alive with laughter, mischief, and the uncontainable joy of a day where the rules don’t matter. We aim to catch all of that — the emotion and the aliveness.

We notice the sweet peas carried for friendship, the peonies bursting with good fortune, the protea -bold and architectural - speaking of transformation. We sift through hundreds of petals to find the love heart shaped petals that will make you gasp. We stop mid-design to admire the layered heart of a ranunculus, knowing it will add depth to your piece.

Our work is built on creativity, authenticity, craftsmanship, and connection.
Predictable pressed petals? Not here. We create statement pieces, bold enough to draw the eye from across the room, intricate enough to hold you in place once you get close.

Nature gives us our symbols:

Sweet pea — the language of gratitude and lasting connection.

Protea — resilience, transformation, and bold beauty.

Peony — prosperity, romance, and new beginnings.

Ranunculus — layers of charm and quiet depth.

Banksia — endurance and an untamed elegance.

Every frame is a quiet act of rebellion against time.
Proof that beauty evolves.

We create for those who notice the details others miss, and know that art should never be one-size-fits-all.
For those who believe art should make you feel something.

So no, this isn’t nostalgia trapped in glass.
It’s living art. It’s your story, in full colour, texture, and spirit, made timeless.

Love,

Old Leaf x
