FAQ's

Booking with Old Leaf Designs

We don’t use a standard online booking system — flowers (and post) are rarely predictable creatures. We schedule bookings based on when your blooms will arrive, factoring in delivery or postage and our creative capacity. When enquiring, please let us know the exact date and location of your wedding so we can make space for your florals.

Yes, please! Our calendar fills quickly, and each bouquet requires hours of careful pressing. Ideally, book a few months ahead to avoid disappointment.

Absolutely! Due to high demand and limited availability- If you're set on working with us, we recommend you join our waitlist. We take only a limited amount of bookings to ensure we give our customers the utmost attention. But we may open up spots if our capacity allows.

Occasionally, yes. If your wedding is a couple of days away or was 1-2 days ago, reach out. If our waitlist applicants haven't snatched the spot up and we do have the capacity to take your booking- you may get lucky. Otherwise we will send you recommendations for other preservation artists.

To secure your spot in our calendar, we require a $450 non-refundable booking fee. We can only accept a limited number of bookings each month, and this fee reserves your place. It’s non-refundable because once you’re in, we’re holding that space just for you, turning away other enquiries to make sure your bouquet gets the time and care it deserves

Getting your flowers to us

If you’re local to Tweed Heads, absolutely. We even recommend nominating someone from your bridal party or enlisting a helpful guest on their way home from Byron Bay, the Gold Coast or Brisbane to deliver your flowers. We've even had guests bring the wedding bouquet with them on their flights back to the Gold Coast.

Our studio is located in Bilambil Heights (Tweed Heads). Please arrange a confirmed drop-off time — this is my home studio, and surprise visits are best left to birthdays.

Yes, we accept express-posted bouquets. We’ll send you detailed instructions, and you’ll need to provide us with the tracking number once they’re on their way.

As soon as possible — ideally within three days. We can work with flowers up to a week old, but the fresher, the better. Post them the next business morning after your wedding via Express Post. We’ll guide you through the process.

What type of flowers are best for pressing?

We've mastered the skill of pressing almost every flower- We will ask you what flowers are in your bouquet. Depending on the season (eg Summer/winter) and how far your flowers have to travel to get to us we will let you know if your flowers will be suitable.

We accept only fresh flowers or bouquets that have a mix of fresh flowers and pre-dried flowers. Flowers need to be fresh to fit flat in a glass frame. There are methods to soften old flowers to flatten them but our artwork style requires flowing shapes and fresh flowers. If your bouquet is dried already we can recomend people who will work with old flowers.

We do- But all white rose bouquets are really limiting design wise. We will only accept all white bouquets once we have explained the limitations design wise and if you are ok with that and still set on working with us and us only we will take accept your flowers. We like to set realistic expectations.

You’ll receive one bespoke design layout, created to suit your chosen frame size and floral palette. If it’s not quite singing your song, we’ll fine-tune it together. Small tweaks and refinements don’t count as a full redesign — those are part of the process.

You have up to three full redesigns included if we need to start fresh; any additional full redesigns are $250 each.

Most preservation artists don’t offer this much flexibility — but then, most aren’t us. (For the record, we’ve never had to use all three. Reading flowers — and minds — is rather our specialty.)

The Old Leaf

Preservation Process

We press what’s needed for your chosen frame size. Some flowers are deconstructed for pressing, and not all blooms are suitable for flattening. If anything isn’t workable, we focus on the best-quality flowers to create your piece.

Some flowers hold colour beautifully; others soften into more muted tones. Fading over time is natural. We don’t use colour correction unless requested (additional fees apply). If you adore vibrant colour, let’s chat about what’s possible. Either way, your flowers will remain intact for many years.

Not by default — we love the beauty of nature’s changes. But if vibrant colour is important to you, we can discuss options for an additional fee. Not all flowers can be colour corrected, but we’ll guide you honestly.

If your ribbon, string, pins, or pendants are sentimental, please remove them before sending. We don’t use these items in our designs, and they may be discarded (with love).

Our current turnaround is 8–14 months, depending on the season and how many orders are in the studio. When it’s your bouquet’s turn to shine, we’ll be in touch to begin the design process. There’s just one pair of hands (mine) creating these pieces, and great art, like pressed petals-can’t be rushed. Timelines are estimates and may shift, but every extra moment is in service of making your artwork as beautiful as it can be.

The A3 frame is the smallest we recommend. Anything smaller doesn’t do your wedding flowers justice. However, you’re welcome to add additional small frames (A4 or A5) as companion pieces.

Artwork Selection

Our A2 size frame, through and through.

It allows for intricate design, more of your flowers can be used and it allows artistic breathing space that the smaller frame sizes can limit.

Yes. We only use UV protected glass. We ditched standard glass after a year or so when we noticed standard glass doesn't protect your flowers from fading (yes a year with standard glass and your flowers will all be brown). UV Protected glass is also non reflective- so it showcases the artwork so much better.

Because your flowers deserve better than “standard.” Regular glass might work for a budget print, but it won’t protect delicate, natural petals from fading over time. We use Art Glass as our bare minimum — it’s crystal clear, UV-protective, and museum-worthy. If you’re trusting us with something this sentimental, we’re going to protect it like it belongs in a gallery.

Getting your frame home

Yes and Yes please hehe- We love seeing our customers reactions to seeing their pressed flower artwork for the first time. Your artwork will be boxed up so you can safely transport it home.

With white glove delivery, of course. We use an art courier to ship your frames home. This means no courier van changeovers. We know the delivery driver by name and trust them wholeheartedly to get your frame to you without breakages.

Because these are artworks- DUH! No but honestly we don't trust other couriers with a large double sided glass frame. With a normal courier most frames would likely be delivered safely but all of our customers are important to us so we won't risk anyones breaking.

Caring for my artwork when it is home

The ideal location for your pressed flower artwork is out of direct sunlight. UV rays are stronger than we expect even when not direct onto the frames (this is why we only use art glass).

Use a microfibre cloth (the kind you’d use for glasses or camera lenses) to gently wipe the glass. If you need to remove fingerprints or smudges, lightly mist the cloth with a glass cleaner that’s ammonia-free.

⚠️ Don’t spray cleaner directly on the glass -spritz the cloth instead. And please avoid paper towels, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cloths as they can scratch the surface or damage the UV protection.

Don’t be shy. Send us a note. We love curious minds.
